Born and raised in Kaneohe Hawaii, Daniel came to Los Angeles in 1993 to attend CalArts
where he received his bachelor’s degree in lighting design. After graduation, he began a career in
the concert touring industry, where he worked his way up to become a production and lighting
designer for many musical acts and performers. A shortlist of previous clients includes Tori
Amos, Indigo Girls, Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys, A Perfect Circle, Blue Man Group, Lil Wayne
and Logic.
Since 2005, he’s served as Eminem’s lighting designer and still tours with him.
In 2008, Daniel began to transition from full time touring to television. He became a member of
IATSE 728 in 2010.
In 2012, he was hired by Oscar Dominguez at Darkfire Lighting Design to serve as the Lighting
Director for The Voice.
Daniel has received 10 Emmy nominations for the work on The Voice, including three wins
(2013, 2015, and 2016).
In 2013, Daniel joined Darkfire as a Lighting Director and has worked on numerous shows for
Darkfire including, World of Dance, The Bachelor and Bachelorette franchises, The Wall, and
upcoming shows, Foodtastic, Bullsh*t The Game Show, and Is It Cake?.
In 2011, He formed a company with his wife, Team Boland Productions, where he serves as a
lighting and production designer, and his wife, Nicole, is an event producer.
